Mikey's Short Term Trading Rules

1) Make up a list of stocks, commodities or ETF's to trade. This list should be names that have good earnings and high relative strength.
2) Monitor this list and throw out the weaker names
3) Buy only stocks or ETF's that are intermediate and daily up (green) and the market is Daily and intermediate term up (green)
4) Buy pullbacks on these stocks to the 20 and 50 day averages
Usually you get 4 to 6 20 day pullback buys and 2 or 3 50 day pullback buys in an intermediate term trend
5) More agressive traders can buy the 7 day average in the first 3 to 8 weeks of the uptrend.
6) Buy pullbacks not runups. A buy should not be easy or exciting but difficult and somewhat scary. DO NOT CHASE
7) Place stop at 5% below the buy price. Do not remove
8) Sell 3 to 5 days after the stock price takes out its most recent 2 week high with at least 15% gains
9) Uptrends that are 12 weeks or more may be ripe for a correction. The first 2 pullbacks to the 50 day are usually safe.
Intermediate term uptrends and downtrends generally last from 8 to 16 weeks with 12 weeks being the norm.
10) Shorting is a viable strategy in downtrends for experienced traders only. In general, reverse the above rules
11) Tweet Mikey @themarketshadow with questions or ideas

Fiscal Cliff ...They are going to throw the kitchen sink at this thing

This blog will not enter into a discussion on the economics of the private sector or the government or the President or moves by foreign governments or anything that does not make you  money. I will let the expert sweet talkers make sense out of the price moves. I will say that the sense comes after most of the price move takes place.

The market is a place where egos come to be gratified.  The idea of predicting the outcome of the stock market, the bond market or the economy is the reward.  The money you make tells everyone that you were right.  That kind of thinking will ultimately kill you. To be successful you must focus on direction.  Do not predict anything because unless you are the Fed. .  Admit you do not know anything and go with the price.  This is called detachment. You must also accept the outcome of  markets and not fight the price. Remain focused on price and be disciplined. Do not fight the price.  I cannot stress this enough.

This blog will spot the moves as they take place and let you know what is happening before you feel compelled to take a loss because the news is so bad. That being said it appears that the news is not going to be pretty over the next 6 months to a year.  There are reasons for this other than what will be said.  This blog will focus on making or saving money.  Just track the trends and play it by the book.  Don't try to be a hero and protect your capital.    The sun will shine again at some other point in time and then we can go when the price tells us too.
The trend remains down wait on the sideline until it changes.
