Mikey's Short Term Trading Rules

1) Make up a list of stocks, commodities or ETF's to trade. This list should be names that have good earnings and high relative strength.
2) Monitor this list and throw out the weaker names
3) Buy only stocks or ETF's that are intermediate and daily up (green) and the market is Daily and intermediate term up (green)
4) Buy pullbacks on these stocks to the 20 and 50 day averages
Usually you get 4 to 6 20 day pullback buys and 2 or 3 50 day pullback buys in an intermediate term trend
5) More agressive traders can buy the 7 day average in the first 3 to 8 weeks of the uptrend.
6) Buy pullbacks not runups. A buy should not be easy or exciting but difficult and somewhat scary. DO NOT CHASE
7) Place stop at 5% below the buy price. Do not remove
8) Sell 3 to 5 days after the stock price takes out its most recent 2 week high with at least 15% gains
9) Uptrends that are 12 weeks or more may be ripe for a correction. The first 2 pullbacks to the 50 day are usually safe.
Intermediate term uptrends and downtrends generally last from 8 to 16 weeks with 12 weeks being the norm.
10) Shorting is a viable strategy in downtrends for experienced traders only. In general, reverse the above rules
11) Tweet Mikey @themarketshadow with questions or ideas

Pre debt agreement breaks off.....Didn't I see this in Europe last month?

The dollar is nearing its lows and son of a gun the debt agrrement talks break off. The drama is killing me. I mean will thay actually not raise the debt ceiling thereby calling a series of downgrades and collapsing the world into financial chaos. Of course, if they do this then they lose their jobs and the government can't borrow. Didn't I just see this same melodrama in Europe over the PIGS? This is reality TV at its best. Lets see, the dollar then takes out the lows in the coming week and every TV viewer, business report listener, or investment paper reader will buy Gold and Oil and of couse get out of dollars and buy assets. Anyway this is some fine drama and it is well directed and very timely. I can hardly wait to see what happens. I wonder what the Fed is buying or selling????

6-20 Working off oversold.
6-21 Greece vote. Market is not oversold now.
6-22 Fed say economy weak will not be a QE 3..Look out!!!
6-23 Bernanke says high oil prices hurting economy. Last year he said it did not hurt economy. So guess what the US will sell oil from reserves. How convenient. That will make you think about which way they are going with the dollar.
6-23 The moment of truth is here for the dollar and Gold. The last holdouts of this new trend change
Gold closes at 1500 below the 50 day but above its closing low of May 5 th of 1480. The dollar closes right on its reversal number of 76.21. Aussie holds 105 on the close but under the 1.0523 that I believe is a downtrend.
6-27 Too many bears time to shake them out
The news is so bad that the bulls are claiming to be contrarians now. They say that the problems are temporary and that stocks will rally by year end. Who knows why should a bad economy get in the way of a stock rally that is what has been going on for the past year.
6-28 New Mikey indicator overbought oversold for short term traders -80 oversold (a buy) +80 overbought (a sell). Green being buy red being a sell. Currently at +45 or mildly overbought
